Are Alcohol-Based Sanitisers Bad For You?
It seems that no matter what we do or where we go these days, we can’t escape harsh, alcohol-based sanitisers. More and more, we are realising the detrimental effects of using them so frequently in our day-to-day lives, especially during times like these when we are combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.
We’re taking a look at why finding a safe, alternative alcohol-free sanitising solution is so important for humans, animals, and the environment moving forward.
Excessive use of harsh, chemical-filled sanitisers can disrupt your body’s microbiomes and even create stronger and more resistant microbes! Ingesting and inhaling the fumes from sanitiser every day can increase your risk of alcohol poisoning, illness, and even certain cancers.
In one particular study, people who reported using hand sanitiser to clean their hands had increased levels of pesticides in their bodies. This could be due to the fact that alcohol is a potent solvent that is incredibly effective at penetrating into your cell membranes, which means that residuals of pesticides, toxins, carcinogens, etc (which would otherwise be rinsed off with water) are now being carried into your body when using alcohol sanitisers.
Just recently, the FDA recalled a limited batch of American-produced bottles of scent-free hand sanitiser. After conducting testing, they found unacceptable levels of benzene, acetaldehyde, and acetal contaminants in these products.
It has been found that benzene may cause certain types of cancer in humans. Acetaldehyde and acetal can irritate the upper respiratory tract, eyes, and skin and may even cause cancers, serious illness or death. From 2011 – 2015, U.S. poison control centers received nearly 85,000 calls about hand sanitizer exposures among children.
In response to the growing concern behind daily exposure to the harsh chemicals in standard sanitisers, The World Alliance for Patient Safety through its Global Patient Safety Challenge program has established a task force of experts to address and to research and verify the potential consequences of alcohol in daily topical use. Some specific studies have looked at the inhalation of alcohol and this has resulted in some countries reviewing its use.
San-O-Tizer, San-O-Agri, San-O-Doc, San-O-Pet, and San-O-Dent contain SANOT500 Hypochlorous acid Acid (HOCl) which has been proven to be more effective against viruses and pathogens compared to many widely used alcohol-based sanitisers or similar products. SanOT products are Broad-spectrum, rapid acting disinfectants (bacteria, viruses, spores, fungi, and biofilms) which are Halaal certified and proven to be effective against SARS-CoV-2 amongst many other pathogens.
HOCl - otherwise known as natures disinfectant - is 100% safe, non-toxic, anti-inflammatory, non-dehydrating, and an effective anti-pathogenic compound that is naturally produced in our white blood cells. This makes Hypochlorous Acid the perfect solution for your home and family, food/agricultural treating, wound-care, dentistry, and even animal husbandry.
